Ever since i was a little guy, I have had to take things apart to see what made them work, and usually I was able to put them back together.

Low or slow water pressure can cause the fill spout to freezer over stopping the ice maker from working....please check for that.

Other than visually watching the ice maker cycle and listening for those noise there may not be much else you can test for. Maybe watch, is it getting stuck, binding, ect.

the water fill tube was not frozen shut, so i purchased a new icemaker, i installed it almost nine hours ago, it has not even filled with water yet,I was hoping it had to get cold first......the arm is in the down position....not sure where to look now

It does have to get cold first....9 hours should be more than enough time. Has the freezer temp been measured with a thermometer?
Is the ice maker running? Might be a good idea to leave the arm up over night and in the morning put the ice makers arm down to see if it runs. *Might* have to tape the door switch down so you can view with the door open.

A little warm, 0ºF is better. Most of these ice makers want the freezer temp to get below 15ºF to close the thermostat inside the ice maker, so you should be ok.

Nope, that is at the end of the ice maker cycle. Should start up and run turning the feller arm, raising and lowering the wand arm ice level arm and the last 6-9 seconds is fill.

Well , I put the arm in the up position overnight, the next day I opened the door, taped the door switch, put the arm down and watched it for a solid 5 minutes, Nothing moved, the arm did not move , the fingers did not seem to move......
where do i go now, I assume i need to check for power? but where and what volts., or do i need to open the "gear" area?
thanks for your help

Checked for 120v at L and N. could not get a reading, tried putting a extension wire in the holes to be sure.still nothing.(my mulitmeter leads are 1/2 long...
pulled the new icemaker back out, checked the (4) wire harness unplugged both ends for continuity (was good)....
tried checking for voltage at the 4 wire plug in the freezer(went with red and green as ground)just a guess. Nothing
not sure if i should get constant voltage at that point (as the ice maker is out of the circuit)
is there a diagram for the freezer plug to tell me the test points?
Any suggestions?
thanks
