Need help getting my head wrapped around this....
I have removed a partition wall and found that power supplying some switches is coming from slab conduit. I need to remove the conduit and abandon the circuit in the slab.
As a result, I will need to supply switches with power from the attic.
I know I need to drop hot wires down to the switches to power them, but I'm not clear what I need to do about neutrals & grounds.
I'm reasonably certain that I need to drop another ground down to the switch.
But what about a neutral? It won't be connected to the switch anyway so why does it even matter if there is a neutral on a switch circuit?
Sure, when I abandon the slab wiring I'll need to disconnect the existing neutral... just don't understand what the purpose was in the first place..... relative to a switch.
Can someone help me think this through?

The code requires a grounded conductor (neutral) at all switch boxes now.

Many dimmers and occupancy sensors require a neutral to operate.

The ground is required at all boxes.

The local energy code may require occupancy sensors.

Consult the local AHJ.

You should remove all unused wiring also.
