Our Whirlpool gas oven worked fine Sat. night but when we went to use it on Sunday didn't get very hot (200 degrees maybe). It's had trouble in the past staying at the correct temperature but now we can't even get it to a temp. that is worth using.

It does not have a pilot light and I think it has some kind of electronic starter. Before I spen $ on having someone (a professional?) look at it, I have the following questions:

1. What's wrong with it?
2. Is this something I should be able to fix myself or is this something to leave to those who know what they're doing, especially since it may invlove electricity and gas?
3. If I do call a prof., do you have any suggestions? I'm in the L.A. area and would greatly appreciate your comments.

Thanks.

Hi,

That is part of the full model#.

SF376PEWW0 SF376PEWW1 SF376PEWW2 SF376PEWW3

But close enough to find that the oven has a hot surface ignitor.....

Certainly -sounds- like a weak ignitor coil....you can read about these from the link here under the heading problems with the glow bar system.

You were correct! I replaced the ignitor (very easy (less than 10 minutes) and saved over $100 in labor) and now have a functioning oven.

One problem: I'm not sure the temperature in the oven is the same as what the knob on the outside says it is. I've got a themometer inside the over that registers about 25-50 degrees lower than what I set the dial at. I realize the themometer may be off, but was wondering how do I calibrate the oven in the event it is off and the themometer is correct?

Is this something the gas company can do or is there no way to change the calibration? (Is the gas calibration mechinism controlled by an electronic sensor? I'd hate to have to put more $ into this oven.)

Thanks.

Hi,

The oven temp knob appears to be adjustable....pull off the oven temp knob....

Sometimes the temp ( 300-350-etc ) knob will have screws on the back of the knob, you can loosen these screws and adjust the knob to match the oven temp

Same stove/oven, new issue. I broke the button used to set the timer. Not the one that turns, but the one that allows you to go from time, to timer, etc. How is that replaced?

Thanks.

My apologies, I will have to check on full model number. The shaft of the button is broken just as it enters the front cover. I take it there is not a way to glue the pieces together (can't imagine I'd be able to line up the two pieces of plastic)?

How do I open the cover to get to the broken shaft?

Thanks.
