"shithole"

Depending on the network, I'm seeing the word on the captions, but the news people won't say it.

What gives?

Are they protecting the deaf?

Many people have spoken the word on CNN. I think the cable channels do it but not the locals.

I know your aware of the 7 dirty words

As raised in the link, maybe it had to do with the time of day.

Kinda surprised your word in quotes made it past this sites potty-mouth filters.

Have fun...notnew...

I am not offended by the word, I am offended by people who lace their talk with vulgarity. I guess what I'm saying these 7 words are not necessarily offensive but there are offensive people who use them regularly.

A position of power, education, good upbringing, etc, means nothing in certain situations.
You can be an otherwise very polite, well spoken person who would do anything for anyone, but have the mouth of a truck driver(old saying.not meaning all truck drivers use vulgar words).
I know a man who retired as a corporate vice-president for a bank known round the world.
Women would leave the room when he got on a rant, but in a family or social setting, he was a perfect gentleman.
I have a work vocabulary(all men at work),and a social, family vocabulary. I'm positive there are many men AND women who have the same(Hilary was well known for her potty mouth toward others, including Secret Service personnel that would take a bullet for her).
Mountain out of a molehill! I'm sure there are plenty of past Presidents who used vulgar language behind closed doors. THEIR subordinates weren't petty enough to tattle.

Thread's not intended as a political he said / she said topic, so let's not go there...

I was just wondering why there seemed to be different rules for the same word. crazy

I think Joe probably got close, but I'm pretty sure I've seen/heard both ways on CNN...

Quote:
Vulgar language isn’t just acceptable – it’s even required for a U.S. president, Rolling Stone declared:

“It's a dirty job, leading the free world. Sometimes it takes a few dirty words.”

Rolling Stone even justified Obama calling Romney a “bullsh*tter” – because “the dirty word is more precise.”

The magazine then listed examples of vulgarity employed by a host of presidents, vice-presidents and presidential candidates:

Abraham Lincoln: "There is nothing to make an Englishman [censored] quicker than the sight of General George Washington."
Barack Obama: “Obama really drew the ire of the pious, calling opponent Mitt Romney a ‘bullshitter.’ Sometimes the dirty word is the most precise.”

Joe Biden: "This is a big f**king deal."
[censored] Cheney: “Cheney reportedly told Vermont Senator Patrick Leahy to ‘go f**k [himself]’”
George W. Bush: “Commented on the presence of New York Times reporter Adam Clymer. Believing he had an audience of one, Bush called Clymer a ‘major-league [censored].’”
Barack Obama: "I don't think I should take any sh*t from anybody on that, do you?"
Richard Nixon: “The Watergate tapes put the phrase ‘expletive deleted’ on the map.”
Lyndon Johnson: "I do know the difference between chicken sh*t and chicken salad,"
John F. Kennedy: "This is obviously a f**k-up."
Harry Truman: “In Truman's eyes, General Douglas MacArthur was a "dumb son of a [censored]," and Nixon was ‘a shifty-eyed goddamned liar.’”

I heard lots of hosts and commentators say it directly.
It's not some side comment, like the other examples.
It's what he officially called about 60 nations.

I did too. But I heard/saw many others say "S Hole"... Just got me to wondering... I assume the FCC (does that even still exist?) has A List of naughty words...

Edited add - and in addition, I've heard "a$$hole" as being quoted as to what he said.
