My older model belt drive washer often won't spin, but when that does happen all I have to do is lift the lid, stick something in the lid switch to simulate the lid being closed, and give the agitator a slight twist with my hand, and away it goes, and I can lower the lid and all is well.

I've read on this site where either a bad spin tube or a bad clutch (basket drive) could be the problem, would this still be the case if the problem is intermittent, or as I described I can start it spinning by hand? I can live with it the way it is, but am afraid it will fail completely some day.

Thanks in advance.
