We live on a small island and appliance help is not easily available.

Our 4 year old Frigidaire Gallery Professional Series recently decided not to make any more ice. It still dispenses water however.

I changed the Pure Source filter but that did not restore our ice.

Water is obviously entering the machine but I need some guidance before I go poking about the water lines and such.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thank You.

Reach up and see if there are frozen cubes in icemaker. If yes you may have a problem(thermostat) with icemaker. If no cubes then probably the water valve which feeds both the dispenser and the icemaker have failed on the icemaker side - replace water valve. It is located behind rear access panel and is a double valve.

Thanks for your speedy and informative reply.
There was no ice in the icemaker - I rotated the "fingers" and nothing dropped but I did notice that the underside of the mechanism that drops cubes was hot - probably that is part of the process of making cubes but I don't actually know.

You mentioned the valve...if this is the one that is located at the rear bottom left hand side when standing behind the fridge then you have probably keyed in on the problem. After I read your post I went behind the fridge and there is water coming from the inlet valve across the bottom of the machine to the left side and there is a
mechanism with two tubes leaving the back of this mechanism - and the tube that goes up to the freezer compartment has no water coming out when I disconnect. I am also a bit confused because we are getting filtered water to drink no problem.

Anyway if you could briefly comment on this it would be appreciated...

there is only water pressure in that line when the icemaker is in the middle if its fill cycle.
the most common cause of your problem is the fill tube freezing up with ice. the fill tube is the tube that goes through the back of the freezer cabinet and goes into the icemaker. you can pull it out through the back after removing the one hex head screw. remove any ice from the tube and re-install it. that should take care of it. you can then cycle the icemaker at that time and it should fill with water
(about a minute after the mold heater comes on and warms it up.)

Mike key mentioned that the bottom of the tray was hot.. this is a defrost cycle of the tray.
As Mike key mentioned that the water seems to be flowing OK.. is it possible there is a fuse and/or thermostat related to the tray defroster that has died?

This is my wild guess.. anyone have opinions on this?

Thanks
Curtis

Thanks - I pulled out tube and there was a semi-circle of frozen water. I cleared it and waited. Seems like only a few cubes were made and then the tube half-froze again.

I rotated "fingers" and ice came out but only one revolutions worth. I injected water into the mechanism and rotated fingers and it made a few cubes. I waited one day but it does not seem to be making any more cubes.

Any other steps to try or is it time to replace something?

Appreciate very much everyone's help - this is a great forum.

okay, that model has 2 seperate dual valve assemblies that are used to fill the icemaker. One is located right where your house water connection tubing goes into the back of the fridge. The other one is connected by tubing to the icemaker fill tube at the back of the freezer. Each of these valves has two coils and valves on it. the green one is for the icemaker. the yellow is for the water dispenser in the door.
two determine which of these two dual valve assemblies is bad, test them one at a time by disconnecting the OUTLET tubing coming from the green side of the valve. There will be no water pressure coming out of the valve until the icemaker is calling for a fill. So, with the line disconnected (and valve pointing into a bucket), cycle the icemaker by pulling up on the fingers. If the valve is good, water should shoot out of the valve for about 8 seconds during the fill portion of the icemaker cycle.
If it does, the valve is good. reconnect it, and check the other dual valve assy the same way.
It is usually the primary valve that fails (the one connected to your water supply line), because that valve is running unfiltered water before it gets through your filter.
So check that one first.

Did I miss something???

I thought the original post said water was coming into the fridge OK???

Is that not the case?
