Looks like it might cut up to 2 inch pipe (just a guess). Not likely you'll ever use it. Even if you have galvanized pipe you'd probably adapt to PVC.

Looks like a standard cutter for steel pipe up to 2" diameter. It could be used for steel gas lines, handrails, fence pipe, etc.

I used to have one like that. Made by Rigid and for cutting galvanized pipe. Only mine was better kept and still painted orange. I recall mine having a heftier thread on the handle, I believe it was an Ajax (square) cut.

Not clear from the photo, but in addition to the cutting wheel, it needs two rollers in the fixed frame. It won't work without the rollers since they keep the pipe centered in the jaws.

I seldom used mine and only on galvanized pipe; I doubt that it will cut cast iron. But then I usually had galvanized pipe cut and threaded at the store. Not much value unless you have a thread die to work with it. Or if you intend to do a lot of work with unthreaded pipe.

IMHO it is not worth salvaging unless you will do a lot of work with galv pipe, since you can get that cut (and threaded) at the store.

In the time it took to read these replies, you could have gone to big box and bought a new wheel and/or a new tool!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yes of course but then where would there be the fun in all of that? grin

Actually, the reason I even posted was I was trying to cut a huge bit of galvanized pipe that was sitting along the garage to make easier to pick up and get rid of...and of course I ended up getting ye old reciprocating tool of massive destruction.

I guess this cutter will go on the wall with the other "antiques" (like the huge C clamp) I have that may never get used but have nostalgic value.

I may still invest in the wheel...but will I use this again...I need to look in the basement for opportunity...

All that extra punctuation is pretty silly isn't it (aside from being wrong)

Ray Baby, listen not to those naysayers....

You can pick up a wheel at any hardware store.
and your wheel will probably work well unless there's
a piece broken out of the edge, and it's gonna come in real handy
cutting all that 2" copper in the basement.
Make sure the other two wheels are clean and free rolling.

Besides, being an original Ridgid cutter,
it's worth a few bux, and I'm willing to give you $50
right now, no questions asked.
(or trade for 2 - 6 pax of 'Gansett)

OR, you can take it back to Costco and get a refund. smile
