HI ALL AND THANKS AHEAD OF TIME FOR ANY ANSWERS TO MY QUESTION. I JUST BOUGHT A HOUSE IN THE COUNTRY AND HAVE SOME QUESTIONS ABOUT AN OLD DEEP WELL SYSTEM ON MY PROPERTY. THE HOUSE HAS BEEN CONVERTED TO CITY WATER, AND THE OLD DEEP WELL SYSTEM IS STILL ACTIVE. I PRIMED THE PUMP AND HAD IMMEDIATE WATER FLOW, HOWEVER THE PRESSURE TANK IS RUSTED BADLY AND A SMALL HOLE EMERGED IN THE BOTTOM OF THE TANK WHILE I WAS TAPPING ON THE OUTSIDE OF THE TANK TO REMOVE SOME CALCIUM DEPOSIT. I DO NOT PLAN ON USING THE SYSTEM FOR POTABLE WATER, JUST FOR OUTDOOR USE. MY SUBMERSIBLE PUMP AND TOP SIDE PUMP SEEM TO BE FINE AFTER THE PRIME. I WAS WONDERING IF I NEED A PRESSURE TANK AT ALL CONSIDERING I WILL ONLY BE USING A HOSE TO WATER? I AM ALSO CONSIDERING INSTALLING A LAWN IRRIGATION SYSTEM IN THE FUTURE. ANY COMMENTS/ SUGGUSTIONS ARE GREATLY APPRECIATED. THANKS!

do you absolutely need one to get water? no. what will happen without? every time you turn on the water the pump will kick in, and then off when it gets up to pressure, and then on, and then off. basic 'short cycling'. your water will work, but you might be straining your pump. ront

How did you prime a submersible pump???
MY SUBMERSIBLE PUMP AND TOP SIDE PUMP SEEM TO BE FINE...??? Do you actually have 2 pumps???

Ront is correct. You don't need a pressure tank, but your pump(s) will be cycling more than they should have to.

I'm gonna interpret that as having a shallow well pump
"topside", and a jet inserted in the well....

IF that's the case, you have a shallow well - less than 30 feet.

If not, please clarify !

Yes, you WILL need a tank, as watering causes a start-stop-start
condition which will burn out the starting winding of the pump
within a couple days.....

One other suggestion - DONT use all caps to post....Thanx.
