Many people don't realize the wealth of innovations that resulted from our space program. It wasn't all rocket science!

True, dat.
In this case, the automation and precision is our gain.
Military uses, too. Imagine dozens of recon and sniper
robots landing behind enemy lines suddenly.

Unmanned is the way to go. $2.5 B for that. It would be
about 100 times that for manned.

My son pointed out this morning that the Olympics cost 6x as much as the Mars Rover. We spend more on potato chips than we do on the space program. Mankind is meant to explore.

"...the Olympics cost 6x as much as the Mars Rover."

Mars rover - $2.5 billion
Olympics - $1.2 billion

More like $19B

I wasn't referring to the US only cost. NBC spent $1.181B for the rights to broadcast the Olympics. And since we get quite a few Canadians here, A partnership between CTV Inc. and Rogers Communications - later to be formally known as Canada's Olympic Broadcast Consortium paid $153M USD for the broadcast rights to the 2010 and 2012 Olympics.

I heard that they spend over $10,000 on Condoms for the Olympic Village? It Was on the morning radio show I was subjected to on an inspection I was on.
