Hi everyone,

I have a plastic piece about 10 inches by three inches, thin. Broke in half. I need to glue it and then add plastic braces on both sides for additional support. First thought that I'd buy plastic glue. But then thought of super glue. Any thoughts?

Thanks

The type of plastic here is key. Some glue well with epoxies, some with CA (Superglue) types, and others with solvent cements. Some can be thermally welded, and others are essentially unglueable, leaving only mechanical repair methods available (screws, bolts, rivets).

What's the part from? Any idea what type of plastic? How strong does it need to be?

It's a cover from a kid's bank. Maybe I should get both the plastic and super glue and see what works best?

I'd try the CA glue first, I think. It works on alot of the plastics that kids toys are made from, except for polyethylene and polypropylene, which are all-but glue-proof. If it's polystyrene, acrylic or nylon (and a handful of others), CA should work. CA works best on hard, brittle plastics (CA itself ultimately forms an acrylic (cyanoacrylate).
