My "new" 2003 Pontiac Montana is very hard to put gas in. Pump kicks off and you have to fill real slow. Not something you would check at test drive with gas at $3.50 a gallon.

Read about spider webs in the vent?

Anyone else run into this issue.

We get this "occurance" occasionally at my store (gas station) Seems the newer model gas pumps have a sensor that stops pumping when the tank isn't full, and it happens with some vehicles, but not all. Something to do with the fumes~the rubber cover thingy blocking air flow and fumes building up, er something like that (Owner got too techy explaining it and my eyes glazed over)

Buttttt...the solution! If you pull the pump handle out slightly, more air gets ventilated in and out of the gas tank and it keeps the pump handle from clicking off. Works every time.

I was a mail carrier, and our trucks were notorious for that. We found that just by turning the handle upside down after inserting it in the filler neck would solve the problem. It's a little awkward, but worked for us. It's true that some filler necks are a pain with kicking off. It's worth a try.

What they said....when the vent tube (on the filler tube)
spits fuel on the nozzle, it clicks off, thinking that the
tank is getting full......
Another issue is a sharp bend in the filler neck causing the
fuel to back up and trip nozzle off.

Next time, try with nozzle handle at 3 or 9 o:clock positions
to alleviate backup into filler neck.
