Looking at Lowe's at a Frigidaire Side by side 26CF. about $800 on sale this week 18 month free finance and free delivery.

The unit in my 3 Yo Samsung from best bye is still cover (?) supposedly.

I have heard stories about it is still around $300-$400 for "other" charges. Always seems to need a new board.

I think my best bet is to buy new and scrap the old.

Opinions? Thanks and a great 4th to all.

A special thanks to Jeff who makes this work here. smile

Hi,

We have a Frigidaire SxS for approx 5 years now and so far just the icemaker has given us troubles. Of the 2, Frigidaire or Samsung, I'd take the Frigidaire....JMO!

Is the present samsung a SXS?

If it's opinions you want, I'd avoid a SXS like the plague...

Nothing to do with the operation, it's the space limitation
of the freezer. Had one, and daughter has one now...
(couldn't convince her but she's learning)
Not wide enough to accomodate a lot of things like
meat packages that you have to put in at an angle to fit,
and forget the boxes of carvel cakes,,,,,,

.

Edit - was at daughters house tonight....
"Hey, would you get another SXS??"

"NEVER"!!

I agree with Bill. A top freezer is the most energy effioient and a bottom freezer is the most space efficient.

Wife needs /wants a side by side. smile

Like Ray stated never argue with the boss.

We have a small upright freezer for the big stuff.

Just the 2 of us so all small packages.

I've owned a top freezer, bottom freezer with French Doors and 2 SxS. When it comes time to replace the current SxS I'm going for a French Door, bottom drawer model. SxS as others have mentioned are too narrow in the freezer side, and I find them too deep in relation to the width in both sides. It is a PITA to get stuff out of the back.

My first house 25 years ago is where I had the bottom freezer French door fridge. They have come a long way from that top of the line Whirlpool I had at my first house. Everyone I've talked to that has one now loves them.

My first fridge I bought used for $50 was a bottom freezer.
In 1976 shortly after we got married.
We lived in my Grandmother's apartment up stairs in her house.

As did my mom and dad when they got married.

The fridge is still at the pond building and still is used weekends in the summer. smile
