I guess I should search out US-made products but it is a complicated mess these days. However, if I have a clear choice when shopping in a store, I will choose a US-made product. But some products - clothing for example - have been made outside for many years. Other times a product may be manufactured outside and assembled here, or vice versa.

I do respect a manufacturer who makes a point of offering a US-made product and clearly advertises it as such.

I certainly don't.

I've really not noticed any particular proclivity for any specific country to turn out high quality products. I've seen low quality junk from the USA, Canada, Japan and a host of 3rd world countries. Likewise, I have some very high quality stuff from each of the above places.

While it's attractive to buy from a local manufacturer, being local isn't what it takes to win my business. Putting out a superior quality product at a competative price is what matters to me. Sometimes that's a locally made product. More often, it's not.

I look simply at quality and price. I'll pay more for quality, but only to the extent that it makes sense. Often, doubling the price yeilds a vanishingly small increase in quality.

Jobs for Americans (or Canadians) are great, and helpful for the locals, but not at _any_ cost.

Had a conversation with a woman 2 weeks ago about this. She will not buy anything online as she wants to read "Made In..." tags. She did her research before buying her pickup truck, not just an American name, but actually manufactured here in USA. Then gave me more examples of her purchases only being Made in USA.

Then in further conversation she says her husband is Mongolian.

Nor sure if she even saw the irony...

To further complicate the matter, some foreign auto makers now have manufacturing plants in this country. The bottom line profit may go to a foreign company, but the labor is in this country.

Then there is the USA that depends upon Chinese purchase of government bonds.

Not trying to justify outsourcing of labor, but ...

Indeed, if North American manufacturing is to succeed (or revive, I guess), it needs market. The NA market alone isn't enough, it needs to market overseas.

If North Americans don't buy foreign goods, then foreigners have nothing with which to purchase NA goods.

It's a global market. No matter where your dollar goes, pennies scatter world-wide.

The US made truck was probably assembled in a US plant, but a large part of it was actually manufactured elsewhere. It's a simple fact of modern life.

And maybe that is the problem.

And maybe you would if the job you possibly saved was your own.

A grocery where I work is closing cuz walmart moved in the same shopping center 2 years ago.

A grocery near my home, 50+ years of service to the community is near failure because, walmart moved into the hood.

Personally, I will not shop at walmart, but my wife does. She knows how I feel, but she has a budget to meet.

And to answer the OP question....I try to buy USA made even if it costs more.

JMHO....notnew.....who has been layed off due to outsourcing.....twice.

These days it is probably next to impossible to buy exclusively American.

That said: (in this country) AMERICAN FIRST! Do look at the tags! I would venture to say most do not and that's a BIG reason why this country is in the mess it is in!

Just waiting for a global reset...and it is NOT a matter of IF BUT WHEN! Of course no one knows how (or when) exactly it will play out, however it is destined to play out...sometime soon.

In the meantime do what you can to make your corner of the world a better place.
