Some know I'm a believer in Acronis True Image Backup and recovery software..... easy to use and very functional.

Well, until 06/22/2012 you can get the latest 2012 home edition for FREE after a mail in rebate from here.

just a heads up and no I don't make anything from the link.....

Brit: can the saved image be restored to another drive, making it bootable in the event catastrophe happens to the primary boot drive, ala here? My aim would be to just tell BIOS to boot the secondary, and make my repairs without having to resort to the installation disk.

yes, clone drive is an option which would be immediately bootable.

Maybe though if you want to just switch from 1 hard drive to another in case of problems you should consider looking at a raid 1 setup.

That's 2 drives (usually same size) installed and a mirror copy of drive 1 is maintained on drive 2 at all times.

Brit: I don't want to rain on the parade, but this C|NET review might be a reason they're giving it away for free:
Cnet. If you go down about 3 frames, 80% of users rated the 2012 version 1 star. I know you're a believer, but... confused
