Anybody here that uses it a lot, as opposed to once in a while?

A friend was showing the features to me today, pretty impressive. He was born in Holland and worked all over Europe and makes a lot of international calls so it really pays for him.

I'm trying to figure out if I can do away with my land line and use Skype to replace it. Haven't found the answer whether I can get calls from non-Skype users to a local number that I get from Skype. I think I can but not 100 pct sure.

I do...

But all video calls (the free service version), to my sister in England, and Dad in Chicago, and K when I'm travelling. Probably average 1 call / week.

English sister uses it daily to keep in touch w/ her three daughters who live all over the world.

I LOVE IT!

I don't use it...but does this page answer your question?

Also of note:

No emergency calls with Skype

Skype is not a replacement for your telephone and can't be used for emergency calling

No he means Ouzo with olive oil and feta cheese.

I downloaded Skype a long time ago but I only know one person who has it. The one time I tried it we lost the audio after about five seconds. Looking at each other and shrugging wasn't much fun.

It's a lot better than that now. I was really impressed with it but I'm not sure it will save me any money unless I find a way to replace my land line.

It's pretty impressive to put in a city almost anywhere in the world and immediately see all the Skype users and who's currently on line.

When Future Daughter In Law was in The Netherlands, Son chatted with her via Skype. It was like she was in the room--Crystal Clear. Butttt...Son did not have a Webcam, so they used "just audio". Then I read that audio and video is sometimes buggy. Probably tired out the Rams. So if you use "just audio", YES, use Skype! It is great!

The challenge with video+audio is it needs a good internet connection both ways. Most people have broadband and it provides a good download speed to watch video (youtube for example). But using video skype requires a good upload and download speed, and most broadband provides slow upload speeds. Skype can adjust the video quality to compensate, but it can only do so much.
