Here's the latest, showing the corner as I've rebuilt it.

I may add one more thickness of 2x6 just so the post is totally supported. The concrete should be dry in the morning, and I'll be able to start putting in the decking.

That's enough bearing under the post. Is the post bottom flat and sound?

Well, the edges of the post are rotted, but the center part of the bottom is sound. I'm thinking of parging in a wood repair epoxy before I put the quarter round molding back on. That will seal it from additional water infiltration and stabilize it.

OK! The porch deck is on, all except for the last board.

I need to drop the post back in place to get the jack out of the way so I can put the face board across the sleepers and put the last porch board on.

Unfortunately, I've run out of time as Mom and I are meeting my brother and sister in law for dinner. So frustratingly close!

And the decking, except for the face trim and the very last board, is done. It was a very slow process, and I had to stop for dinner with family. Then it started to rain... Sigh.

The nice thing is that the porch is now unbelievably solid. Its almost like walking on a concrete floor.

Thanks for the running commentary with pics, very interesting.

Good to hear you've made such progress and won so many 'brownie' points with your mom.

Bob.

Wow! That is good progress from the mess you started with to the near-final result.

The almost finished product! I just have some epoxy work to do to fill in some rotted spots around the base of the post and the trim to put on, but I am, for all intents and purposes, done.
