as I said this is a huge cluster and probably will never get resolved to everyone's satisfaction
I also heard something about the 911 tapes and one bit was the dialog you heard on the news media and another was more the actual one and how the news media kind of snipped out the bits they "felt" were important and thus makes it sound way different.
But again, where are the real truthful details?
The authorities handled this wrong from the beginning. Now it is grown a life of it's own.
Now I will say this and hope it comes out the right way. If at the end of all this, whatever the outcome, the after effects are of violence and rioting, then it sure will seem that nothing has changed over the past decades.

He was then told to stop following, he didn't. Then there's a confrontation. Does Trayvon think he's in danger and defends himself? Does Trayvon go too far and now Zimmerman thinks his life is in danger and then uses his gun? How the hell will they ever sort that out? If Zimmerman didn't have a concealed carry permit would he have approached him at all?

Able, I pretty much agree with your points. This will never really get figured out. Too much of a mess.
Grizz, I do not care if it is NBC, CBS, TNT, FOX or whomever, they all are media whores who care more about being first with reporting something sensational and never mind facts.
Real actual news reporting died years ago.
And the cyber-age internet sure does not help because EVERYONE is a reporter-know it all-blogging-postulating-media grabbing puke.
I seriously cannot feel I can believe much of any of it and one has to sift through the chum to find the edible tidbits of truth.
This story infuriates and disgusts me because it is tragic, it should never of happened, it has become political and racial and people are blinded to even knowing the truth other than the truth as they want it to be.

And I agree totally with your post. There was a time, perhaps the 1930s and 40s when newspapers has a strict code of conduct and ethics. That's pretty much gone. TV is something else. And FOX is in a class by itself calling itself "entertainment" and not news. Remember they won in Superior Court in Florida their FIRST AMENDMENT RIGHT to distort the truth and lie. During their appeal, FOX asserted that there are no written rules against distorting news in the media. They argued that, under the First Amendment, broadcasters have the right to lie or deliberately distort news reports on public airwaves. Fox attorneys did not dispute Akre’s claim that they pressured her to broadcast a false story, they simply maintained that it was their right to do so. After the appeal verdict WTVT general manager Bob Linger commented, “It’s vindication for WTVT, and we’re very pleased… It’s the case we’ve been making for two years. She never had a legal claim.”
UPDATE BY LIANE CASTEN: If we needed any more proof that we now live in an upside down world, the saga of Jane Akre, along with her husband, Steve Wilson, could not be more compelling.
