Hi, I have an American Knock out rose bush and was wondering if now was a good time to trim it back, and how much it could be trimmed? It has done well but has kind of grown out of its corner, so I'd like to cut it back some.

Thanks - I'm assuming they would fall under the modern shrub rose category?

One more question - the author of that article says that pruning should begin when forsythias start to bloom...but I don't know when that is frown - sometime soon I take it?

I think that depends on your growing zone. Around here, they show off their bright yellow all over town before most other bushes even get green leaves.

What they look like

Alright - I'll keep an eye out. In other words, probably sometime in March I should be pruning the knock out bush.

They are a popular bush. A nice bright ray of sunshine yellow early in spring.

Just a long time update on this. I trimmed this thing because it was getting a little overgrown into the rest of the flowerbed. The trimming went well - and resulted in...the knockout bush EXPLODING - this thing doubled in size over this summer! I guess I'll need to trim it back again, but at least I know I came nowhere near to killing it with my trimming.
