Using this diagram ... since I don't know the official names...

In Pic 2, the white ring between the nut and the rubber ring. If that is broken would it cause the drain to leak? Or do I just need to tighten that ring up some more?

Had to take the drain apart to clean out the gunk since the stopper was "locked" in..bottom center. Now it's put back together it is leaking from the rubber ring.

The beveled black ring does the sealing,
and has to be 'squished' tight between drain and sink.

Lubricate the white ring/nut surface and tighten...

If it cracks, ........ Too tight !

The white ring is there to keep the nut from twisting (deforming) the rubber washer when the assembly is tightened. So it in itself doesn't provide any sealing.

Does this assembly need plumber's putty (or silicone) on the other side of the basin?

If simple tightening doesn't stop the leak, I'd take it apart, clean it real good, and re-putty, and reassemble, using some plumber's grease on both sides of the white ring. Also make sure your assembly is not tilted at all.

Note - plumber's grease and putty are different.

But if the white ring is cracked, is it possible that is preventing the nut from pressing the rubber into place correctly?

No putty in this assembly.

I think i may have figured it out. In Figure 3...there is a white ring at the installers fingers...is a foam ring. Now that i'm thinking about it that ring wasn't a flat ring anymore...but more of an O ring.

and of course Depot doesn't sell that foam ring.

"suggest a clear caulk or something along those lines."

I'll contact AmStan see if they'll just send me one.

hang on I am still reading that diagram....I think I can figure it out...

my french is not so good

my spanish (not in this diagram) is a bit better

where you buy this? Montreal?

I'd try the putty..I know the vanity I put in a bit ago did not say putty/caulk...

not sure but on mine the way you put the hole for the thing that makes the stopper goes up and down can determine what the stopper does or does not do, locks it or something, I cannot remember, all I know it works and does not leak...

Still at part 7 B

...that ring is usually where putty is installed on other manufacturers sink drains.

AmStan did send me a new ring free of charge. It just took 2 weeks (FEDEX) to get to me.

Plumber acquaintance says he doesn't carry them either and has never heard of it. He also said to wait about a week or so and ask them to send another one so I have it on hand for next time. He says they will always send them free of charge.

Which is good...cuz i looked online after i got the part #...and they sell for anywhere between $3-10 plus shipping.

New foam ring in place. Everything back together.

The tail piece joins an extension then the extension joins the trap piece. If water is appearing at the top of these 2 slip nuts, it can only be coming from above, right? It couldn't be leaking thru the joint, can it? I wrapped my fingers around the tail piece but didn't feel any water running down
