I made these for a friend's grandson's baptism. I steam bent beech for the hulls.

Thanks. That barrel was a real triumph but I don't think I'd ever want to do another one. The boats were fun. The grandparents own a Greek restaurant. Those people go all out with weddings, baptisms and funerals. The theme was nautical because the godfather is in the navy.

Nice work all around, Dave! The wine truck's looking great!

Is the boat for static display only, or is it poolworthy? It certainly looks the part, I like the clipper line of the prow...

The boats are for display only. They have flat plywood bottoms. Their sole purpose was to hold party favors. I just freehanded the lines. It has a flat transom which probably isn't accurate. By the way, Mommy and Yaya (Grandma) did the painting and sewing. I can't take credit for that.

Very nice nonetheless!

I call the freehand line method "TLAR". That Looks About Right, LOL.

Y'all may recall the hunting knife I made in this thread:

http://handymanwire.com/ubbthreads/ubbth...ge_a#Post699273

Well, I have a 2.5 year old son, and a 4.5 year old daughter. My daughter has long had a toy wooden knife, and it was time to make one for my son as well. I used the above knife as a pattern.

The blade of this one is 3/8" thick hard maple, and the handle is cherry. Construction is the same as my hunting knife, but I omitted the rivets, and used wood glue in lieu of epoxy. The finish is simple linseed oil.

Floyd loves it.
