Ummmm... Didn't I suggest that it could be the wind?

Could it be a loose piece of soffit, or siding, blowing/rattling in the wind? Or the louvers on a whole house fan exhaust?

When it is windy outside, my gutters make a buzzing-type noise, the windier it is, the louder the noise is. When we first noticed it, 10+ years ago, my wife thought it was someone outside using a chainsaw/weekwacker, and when I first heard it, I thought it was a boiler issue. My suggestion, wait for a windy day, go outside/on the roof, and confirm that it is not your gutters.
