A spoon handle is stuck between the impeller wall and wheel. I've used an allen wrench to rotate the blades at the bottom of the unit; the wheel rotated but does not disengage the handle. What other options might/should work?

if the handle is lodged between the cutter blades and the rotating wheel it is unlikely you will be able to remove the spoon without destroying the stationary blade teeth. long nosed vise grips may be of help here, but i doubt it. there is no other way to grab the spoon or disassemble the disposal.

Turn allen wrench back and forth to unjam,
and then turn full turns...if possible.

If you have a set of tongs or long nose pliers,
hopefully you can get a grab on it.

The 'spring' of the handle is probably holding it
between the cutter and outside housing.

Keep turning.....

Thanks for the reply. I was told to loosen the center bolt on the disposal chamber; might this work?

Thanks for the reply. What are you referring to - "spring" of the handle? I was told to loosen the center bolt on the disposal chamber; might this work?

removing the center bolt requires that you have an impact wrench and the motor housing disassembled. the entire unit has to be removed from the sink and taken apart.

Might be time to pull the unit and try and get the spoon out while on a bench... Worst case, as Punky implied, is you go get a new one. But my guess is once out and you're able to work on it easier, you'll get the spoon out.

In re-reading your OP, I wonder if gripping the spoon is part of the problem? If so, there are small angled tip Vise-Grips available... Maybe try one of these next?

Thank you; found a wire stripping vise grip that worked... Thank you all

The 'spring' refers to the fact that the spoon handle will wedge
and the bent spoon handle will act like a 'spring' holding it tighter against the blades.

You should be able to get a pair of pliers on the spoon,
and have one person pull, while another turns the wrench.

Otherwise, watch this..... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UKRkVQCYSmU

Edit....OK, you got it.... grin
