Hi everyone,

I bought a carbide tipped drill bit to drill holes in large rocks for my feathers and wedge set. First rock went ok. Then the bit would just slip in the drill and not spin. So I think I needed to get HAMMERDRILL bits, and I ordered four of them.

So, regular bits won't work in a hammerdrill? BTW I don't have a SDS drill, just a hammerdrill.

by regular i think you mean 'round shank' bits? they are completely smooth where the chuck clamps down? these will work in any drill but they are harder to make tight. some bits have one side flattened or 3 sides flattened to better have the chuck teeth seat. there is a tighter fit and less of a possibility for slippage.

My tapcon bits have a flat spot and they don't slip. Hard to tell what type shank the ones I ordered look like, but I hope that they work.

I don't know, maybe my drill is broke

it's possible that the teeth in the chuck are too stripped to hold. most chucks are replaceable. just remember that the screw inside is reverse thread. if the clutch or gears are broken in the drill it may be less hassle to replace rather than fix.

I'll look at that if the new bits don't work

You can also try tightening the chuck in all three positions. (if you don't have already have that habit)

...ah yes, makes a big difference if the drill has a chuck key. if

it's a hand tightened model not as easy to tighten as firm.
