Before I get into any further detail....is there room for one more cable...12/2...in this box?

If a clearer pic is needed let me know...this was a quick cell pic.

I would think so...of course trying to twist and connect another wire on each black and white may prove interesting...come in from the left....???

Just for extra space, I would add a box extension or repalce the box with a larger unit. I did not check my box stuff list, but I like to give all those wires extra breathing space.

Here is what I'm looking at:

Red - Power In
Blue - Out to 2 outlets
Green - Out to wall switch
Orange - From wall switch to 3rd outlet
Yellow - Out to closet light

This is just over a bedroom. I want to add a ceiling light which would wind up being mounted just left of this box. I'm thinking cutting the Orange wire, and adding the half connected to the outlet into this junction box. The half connected to the switch (may need to replace to add length) would then connect to the new ceiling fixture.

I would just use a box extender to be safe, easier also.

You only need 1 I just found case price quick.

Not the exact one you need but an idea what it looks like.

A 4"x4"x1.5" box can hold 9 #12 wires. All the grounds collectivly count as one. Currently you have five 12/2's so the count is 11 so its overcrowded to begin with, assuming its a 4x4x1.5 box. That size box will hold 10 #14's.
Use a box extender. Be sure the grounding wires ground the box as well. The new box volume will include the extender, box volume increases with extenders or plaster rings. Add up total of the stamped box volumes. Allow 2.25 cubic inches for each #12 and 2.00 cubic inches for each #14. For future reference each device installed in a box counts as 2 wire allowances.
You are going to have 6 wires spliced together, be sure the wire nut can handle it. The wire chart will be included with the package of wire nuts.

Instead of a wire nut...would it make more sense to use these new-fangled gadgets?

OK let me get this correct in my head, MCA said "A 4"x4"x1.5" box can hold 9 #12 wires" so I am assuming that means 3 cables each with 3 wires....yes?

Stupid question perhaps, but wanting to make sure. and 10 14x2's is confusing to me.

am counting a black wire, a white wire and ground wire as each wire in my head

If one of the 3 wires is a ground then 3 cables counts as 7 wires. ALL the grounds count as one.
