ho ho ho, tis the holiday season and we have some lights and a tree "revolver" on remotes so we can turn on/off with a button push rather than bending our older selves down to the floor to plug/unplug the lines.
This evening, things came on without the remote being pushed and then would not go off when we tried using the remote. eventually, after 10 minutes or so, they worked again.
No, the neighbor does not have a garage door operner.
would a power surge cause this? why wouldn't the "off" button work>? Ideas?
thanks in advance

bad batteries...interference from things like other remotes, phones, computers, microwaves, etc.

power surge could do it. did you notice any power oddities?

'dirty power' - something/frequencies not normally on the sine wave could also be corrupting any circuitry inside.
