Samsung microwave with a the flashing -SE- code. I unplugged the microwave for several minutes and it went through the setup process. I could tell that not all the numbers were responding, but I got it setup for about 30 minutes. Now it's flashing the -SE- code again. Doing a search on the internet, it seems that I likely have a short in keypad. How easy or hard is it to replace the keypad? where is the best place to purchase one?

SE or 5E codes are usually sensor problems. it is also a catch-all for a keypad shorting issue. if it's either issue then it will need professional service. to test the sensors:

SENSOR TEST (QUICK TEST)

1. With 2 fingers touch and hold the following pads at the same time :

pause and cancel

2. Observe diagnostic number in display (Numbers approximate)

ex) 33 (Vs) 39 (Vout)

? Vout Vaule : 10~150 (Normal-verify with "detection test" )

? Over 150 or Less than 10 (Sensor failed. Check connection of Sensor.)

Sensor Error Code.

E61 - Open error. Sensor unpluged, wiring or smart board

E62 - Short error. Shorted sensor or smart board

VENT MOTOR

HUMIDITY SENSOR

I'm so glad my microwave has a turn-knob timer and nothing else. It's been working GREAT since 1982.

Punky - the pause and cancel button are the same button. Is it aanother button I need to push?

Holmesuser1 - first microwave was a sharp bought in dec. 1993. Lasted 14 years. Have had 2 since then. Unbelievable the garbage they sell today.

Hmmm...nope, all sites say it's the pause/cancel button(s?). But all definitely say it's a sensor error and the machine is broken but can have a relatively expensive repair made.

thanks Punky. I'll have to see what Samsung has to say. It appears to be a very common repair.

I was about to call Samsung last night and decided to give the microwave one more try. It worked! I was able to set it up and it has been working. We'll see if it continues to work.

UPDATE - After learning it would cost about $170 to replace the keypad (the problem), I contacted Samsung and asked if there was anything they could do since it failed so close to the warranty. Samsung extended my warranty and will pick up the cost to repair the microwave.

the interest thing is their is a national back order for the keypad so it may be another few weeks until it's fixed. To tie us over, we bought a $40 microwave from Home Depot.

thanks everyone for you help.
