Our church has some outdoor benches that need constant care. I was in one of our local schools yesterday and there was a Trex bench that would really fit the bill. Imagine an outdoor bench you didn't have to mess with. Well, I'll tell you, I have looked all over the place on the 'Net for what I saw and I could not find it. I'd like plans even better!! It was VERY comfortable for something wooden. The back must have been laid back just a little bit more than the straight 90 Degree back you might expect. The ones I have found were a mere fortune because they were claimed to be made of "recycled" material. Anybody out there have any useful info?

What are you looking for? Plans? There are all kinds on the 'net...

How about posting a photo of the one you liked?

Pretty much anything made of wood can be duplicated with a composite.

Can't you make your own "plans" from the actual bench?

Yes, there are lots of plans available on Google.

Yup, a fortune.....I did the same thing you did,
and went as far as to flip it over to find the name.....

Unfortunately, anything made tuff enough for school / commercial is high-dollar stuff.

This one, for instance, all recycled, is $600ish........

I made Trex benches for our back deck; the benches are actually the railing for the deck. May not be to code since the horizontal pieces could be climbed upon by a toddler, but they were approved by the inspector.

The frames are spaced about 30" and the horizontal pieces have less than 4" spacing between them. I screwed all the pieces together with deck screws designed for Trex. The material is 2x4 sized Trex. The backs are sloped for comfort.

We are very pleased with the benches. They do get hot in the sun but we use cushions on them and that solves the heat problem.

As a retired general contractor you know that does not matter, right?

Holy cow, Bob, I would have thought Trex wouldn't span that far unsupported. On decks, don't the joists need to be closer than the 16" on center?

Yah, I should have looked for plans, but thought I would at least find that exact bench somewhere. It's sitting outside a particular classroom and I'm hoping to see the teacher and ask him for some info.
Keep cool. I was in your area for a Road Atlanta race on the weekend near the 20th of May and it was 95 all weekend. My sons are in Suwanee.

I'm about 60 miles north of Atlanta and at 1400 ft so thankfully it cools down at night.

Having been in south Florida for over 30 years I'm somewhat used to the heat. Went through Suwannee last week.

The 2x4 Trex I used easily spans 30" - for seating purposes. For the deck surface, 1.25" Trex is supported by wood spaced closer than 30", per their data sheet; I'd have to look that up.
