While washing some clothes tonight, we heard a loud noise coming from the washer (Whirlpool top load). Was a loud clicking noise. Opened the lid and it was not spinning (was on spin cycle). The water was gone, but the clothes were still very wet. The noise would stop when the lid was opened, and would start again when the lid was closed. I've seen several posts about the coupler on Whirlpools. From what I could see of it, it didn't look bad. I could put my fingers on it and spin it. I also could spin the clutch and the tub would spin (washer laying on its side). Most of the info I've found on the web for not spinning refers to the coupler, but none of them mention the loud clicking noise. It almost sounded like gears not meshing. Could it be the transmission? Any and all help appreciated! -Craig

Hi, I guess you could tell I've never worked on a washing machine when I layed it down to see the motor, eh? Taking the cabinet off was a much easier way to look at things. Pulled the motor and found a busted coupler. Should be a simple fix. Your help is greatly appreciated. -- Thanks, Craig
