I was wodnering when this might develop. I will admit, we on occasion pick up a case of the bottles, still got half in the basement, typically will put them in fridge and then take a couple if traveling or working around the yard on a hot day. But typically dont bother with them. Pretty much have a regular container with cold water with slices of lemon inside in the fridge.

Now if we could wean people off their constant urge to walk/drive around with a coffee mug...

ha ha ha, that article is funny! So many offhand throw away remarks about this and that envirnomental thing and then the poll "will I switch to tap water"

well... does if count if I ever stopped drinking tap water?

I keep several cases of bottled water and a few large containers around in case of hurricane induced water problems that might crop up. And once a year I cycle through those so that I dont end up with 10 year old bacterial cultures in a jar when it's time to need them. But I recycle the plastic when I'm done. But otherwise, our water comes out of the tap. (or the tap on the fridge where it's nice and cold)

Ah this reminds me of something. At various modes of panic time, (potential storms and such) we also would keep some bottled water handy. I had bought like 4 of the gallon jugs from the store...plastic containers. Stored them in the basement. Kind of forgot about them. Then seems at some point I would remember them when I would find water on the floor, the bottles kind of springing leaks. Can I assume the plastic has a life time before it lets go? would storing on the cement floor hasten this leak springing?

I don't think I've ever paid for bottled water. Do these people not realize that water is water? Whether it comes from a nice pretty waterfall like in the commercials or a heavily polluted river, water is the same. In every wealthy country, the treated water from that polluted river is as clean as from the prettiest stream. Paying for a bottle of water is stupid, IMO.

Franny had a link about Horses..``and
Well...Our local news paper editorials..
written by both MD and Vets..made me think ?

Quote

Dentists have long argued
the benefits of fluoridated water saying it's helps
to strengthen teeth enamel and prevents tooth decay. However,
opponents say fluoride in the water is hazardous
to your health.

"It's actually Hydroflusalisic acid,
" explains Jeff Green from the group
Citizens for Safe Drinking Water.
"It's not a treated product.
It's not a natural product at all,
it comes from the phosphate fertilizer industry.

According to a report by the
National Academy of Sciences' Institute of Medicine,
the plan will expose more than 64,000 children
a day to unsafe fluoride levels.

"Even if you believe in fluoride we're talking
about people being overdosed by the amount being
placed in the water at this point," said Green.

According to the CDC,
about 30% of children who drink fluoridated water
may have some degree of developing fluorosis,
a defect of the permanent teeth resulting
in dark staining and, in severe cases,
substantial corrosion of the enamel.

I would have rather had the choice``..
rather than be ``forced``.. to drink it..
Of course..of course..a horse is a horse..
And bottled water is full of stuff's ..

I just can't get so excited about the conspiracy of water fluoridation. That 30% figure you quote has actually risen to 37% since 2002, but contains 12% that are "questionable fluorosis" which means that the dentist couldn't be sure or not if there was anything there at all but thought that maybe, and 19% that are qualified as "very mild" meaning that they were able to find a white spot on the teeth that they consider to be fluorosis. slightly under 6% is "mild" and only 0.53% ranging into the moderate level. And every single one of those is from natural sources or children eating their toothpaste. You cannot drink enough municipal water to get an overdose of fluoride, but you can from natural sources! There is a very high level of fluoride in some places naturally in the US and elsewhere. Part of the water fluoridation process in the US is to actually remove it when it is above around 1ppm naturally in the water, and add it to places where it is below 1ppm.

Once your permanent teeth are in then there is no further danger of fluorosis. It is strictly a problem when developing teeth and if you dont let your kids eat their toothpaste it wont happen to them while drinking a controlled water supply. Well water on the other hand often has many times the appropriate amount of fluoride in it. So in texas now you no longer get "texas teeth" because they actually remove it from the water.

You might hear other things from people who are frightened of it, like they don't add it to the water in europe, and thats true. They add it to salt! Like we do for iodine. But they still add it to their diets. There is some valid criticism and discussion going on about whether or not adding it to the water is the best way to add it to our diets, but this has nothing to do with any problems with getting too much, but rather the opposite.

There is no question as an adult that it is beneficial. The only danger is in damaging the enamel formation of developing teeth as a child and if you eat your toothpaste or get your water from a well in texas or (i think) utah or colorado or some places around there then you will get this with or without city water adding it.

There are enough real things to worry about
