My Kenmore side by side refrigerator water dispenser is not working anymore. The ICE dispenser works fine. Please advice.

Is this something that can repaired by myself or should I get a service technician?

Really appreciate your input.

I have found two main causes for this in the field:
1. The water reservoir (in the fridge section) may be frozen up due to too-cold setting. Check this by using a hair dryer on the water tank for 5 minutes to see if water flow is restored.
2. A bad solenoid on the water valve in back is cheap and easy to fix. Use your OHM meter to check continuity of the solenoid.

ok..im having the same problem but when I look behind the frig I see the tube coming from the valve into the a hole in the bottom of the frig. Then a smaller one comes out the same hole to the front door the up to the dispenser. I've check to make sure water is come out of the valve and it does. But I just get a hummming noise when i hook up the valve to the line going in the bottom of the frig. I cant see what the tube from the valve is connecting to...maybe a tank?

Hi,

In reply to:

Kenmore Refrigerator

Kenmore is made bu several different companies...model#?

Some model# helps.

Some will have one house water feed into a double valve, the double valve seperates the water to the icemaker and int othe fresh food section water chill tank, back out from the chill tank over to the freezer door and up inside the freezer door to the dispensor.

I saw your messages and did some checking. I have the same problem with my 106.59542990 model. No water but ice maker is working. Reservoir wasn't frozen as far as I could tell. Can you tell me more about checking valves, etc?

TIA Bill

Tried a hair dryer on it?

If incomming water is ok, proper power to it when someone pushes the water paddle ( 110-120 volts AC ) checked with a volt meter and no water flow would indicate a bad fill valve. 1/2 of the fill valve is for the icemaker, other 1/2 of the fill valve is for the chilled water.

Hi,

I have the same problem, except both my water dispenser and icemaker are not working. I check the valve in back of the fridge and my water supply going in is fine, except nothing is coming out on the other side. I checked both sides of the valve, checked power and as far as I can tell the water dispenser side is getting power, but there is no water coming out, also I don’t know how to check the ice maker valve side.

Can you help?

KT

The water dispensor is not working and the icemaker inside the freezer is not making cubes.....or the water dispensor and ice cube dispensor is not working but the icemaker is making cubes?

Water and power to the fill valve but no water flow -should- indicate a fill valve problem, usually can cycle the icemaker through a harvest and check for power at the fill valve the same way you did for the chilled water. Lift the icemaker on and off metal wand arm up for a few hours and then move it down to start the icemaker going.

An Amana built Kenmore SxS refrigerator.

The icemaker and chilled water -appear- to share the one fill valve....

Dual water inlet valve

This refrigerator uses the module style icemaker.
