I just read a woodworking tip that suggested the use of Armorall to keep the table of your thickness planer slick. I'd be afraid to use that stuff on anything that I planned to put any kind of a finish on afterward. Myself, I've never used it on anything because I don't care to have the vinyl in my vehicle's interior look like Elvis's hair. I have a product I bought from Woodcaft called Topcote which states that it will not contaminate wood or interfere with any staining or finishing. It's expensive but I feel a lot safer using that than Armorall. Any opinions?

I heartily agree. If I see a well documented report saying that Armorall is ok to use, I might consider it. TopCote takes my vote.

I use Butchers wax on my tables, and never had a staining problem... Also great for preventing rust!!

For that matter, I have used hard auto wax without problems. By the time you buff it out, there is nothing but a hard film remaining.

The problem with a lot of auto wax is that a lot of it has silicone in it!! Bad for staining!!

I agree with Dennis, stay away from any type of wax that has silicone in it. Unless of course, you like the look of fish eyes all over your project after you stain it.

I use a spray on dry teflon lubricant. Absolutely no residue at all. When I'm making sleds or templates or something that need to slide along I will put paste wax on them, but the tables all get teflon.
