Of the thousands of words printed on the subject in this forum those are probably the wisest, IMO.

Almost exactly what I was going to post. Well put.

Saddam compared to Hitler :
I should have spent more time padding that statement - a straight up Hitler = Saddam is not nearly entirely proper.
Saddam = Hitler in terms of :
- #1 most wanted man by the Allies in their respective eras.
- Both threw Americans into a costly war.

Not to belabor this but, if throwing $400 B at Iraq, specifically Baghdad, was aimed at putting an end to the WMD threat and ending the Saddam's regime, it stands to Saddam's capture would go down as a significant date. But you're right.

I just wanna know why people who want to commit suicide are deciding to take as many as their fellow countrymen with them.

Is it all just a copycat of Columbine, or is it the influence of video games, or is it that we're living in a society where infamy is almost as desireable as fame? What better way to achieve infamy than by blowing away a few dozen people before you get killed or take your own life. You're guaranteed your 15 minutes of infamy on the nation's television networks.

I think you answered your own question to a certain extent.
The man also suffered from mental health issues whether diagnosed or not.

On Friday the 13th a man was in an interview on one of the 60th floors of the Empire State building.
He apparently walked up from the interview opened the window and jumped out.
It's impossible to guess what, why, how.
Who's responsability is it to help people with personal challenges like this?

It's OBVIOUSLY societies' fault. The company could have advertised that the job wasn't worth dying over, and that the company wasn't so interested in competition that it didn't have resources to help get the interviewee another job.

Oh, I explained that wrong. He was the interviewer ...
But "society's fault" is a good answer. Please stand up, give yourself a pat on the back and be recognized by your peers.

There's got to be at least ONE peer.

We all are - too an extent. The only thing we really CAN do is to try and be more understanding and aware that mental illness is REAL and in most cases treatable. The more society accepts mental illness just like any other form of illness and not a matter of "weakness", the more people will feel comfortable about asking for help. No one likes to think they are "weaker than" or "not as capable" as they "should" be. Little by little people are changing their views on "mental illness" (a VERY broad term). The best we can do is not to try and simplify the "reasons" behind a persons actions to hurt themself or others. And I do mean reasonS - it's never "just because..." "if only..." etc.

Some things just aren't simple!!

I usually stay out of gun control arguments (I believe in "to each his own") and truthfully don't believe that's what this whole thing should be about at this point, there will be time for that later. But I have to wholeheartedly disagree with this. Ask the grieving parents of one of these victims if they would have liked to have a responsible, armed citizen there to possibly save their child. Or, ask the family of the family of four who were randomly murdered in their homes on a recent New Year's Day here in Richmond, VA if they wish that an armed citizen was there to intervene.

Yes, there are accidents and yes there are plenty of stories for the other side of gun control, but I personally as a gun owner am not in more danger than I'd be if I did not own a firearm.
