I can't adjust the volume on my Compaq EVO N600C laptop pc. The up/down adjust buttons don't work, and the volume icon doesn't show up in the taskbar, even with that option checked in audio properties. The volume is at a constant, about 25% volume. It worked fine up to today. XP PRO

Sounds like a driver problem. The buttons use what's called ACPI to control the volume, and once in awhile will have issues. Have you tried a cold reboot? (Shut the computer down and then restart as opposed to a simple restart).

Give that a shot and lemmie know.

Do you have a volume wheel on the side of your laptop/notebook which may have been turned down by someone??

I did a cold reboot and the volume buttons now work, but the icon still doesn't show up in the taskbar.

In Windows XP, the volume control is available from the Control Panel under Sounds and Audio Devices; place a check-mark by the Place Volume in Task bar. (I suppose it would be the same with Pro

What Saugen said If that doesn't work, check the manufacturer's website for a driver update.
