X10James, what kind of a blade are you running on your TS? It isn't a negative hook angle by any chance is it? A little sawdust on the table top is expected but your TS shouldn't be throwing a lot of dust up into your face.

heh, I had to go look, it's an oldham blade, nothing special except a lot of teeth. Perhaps I exaggerated when I said it spit A LOT, but it sprays enough that some will get into my eyes and be dangerous to use without goggles.

The best accessory I've ever done for my table saw was the crosscut sled that I built. makes it MUCH easier to cut small pieces to size.

Is that relatively easy to make? Sounds like something that I should have on hand as well. I'm all for small!!!

I am delighted to have found and read all the great safety advice offered in this thread ... and it just goes to show how wonderful this site and forum always is.

I don't know why, but for some reason or another, my old building department was given quarterly reports from the police department listing the number of times they (and EMS) responded to construction site or to home injuries. In all honesty we'd just glance at the reports, shrug, scratch our heads and then file them away, but from those reports it appeared to me that power tools caused, or were in some way, a factor in a great many of those injuries ... and were all preventable.

Despite the odds, none of my students were ever hurt in class, but during an inspection I once saw a young construction worker take some very, very nasty cuts to his hand while he was changing a saw blade ... with the saw still plugged in. 'Luck' was on his side that day ... his accident could have been much worse.

Unplug that machine whenever you're; changing blades, cleaning it, moving it, and storing it. Don't be a statistic.

Enjoy that tool. I'm jealous.

Lost an eye at 7 years of age..
``Steel``` carrying a piece of a framing ax.. waffle nipple
off the face somewhere behind the eye... Was lodged next
to the optic nerve in the 50's..they dont know where it
moved on to now..
Was blinded twice.. after that..
Once wearing a full face shield..using a grinder while
laying on my back under a car..
Once tipping a nail..three stories high...well I have
some stories.. I just hope others dont take what I have
tried to say... as anything less than the good old reminder of....
Saftey First.. and
Never get to familar with your tools..
Oh.. YES..eye steel do...two this day...
.And you wood tink eye wood
have learned... in the wink of an eye..
all over but the crying...
