Hi, where I live, in the summer we get a decent amount of Mosquitos in our back yard. I'm sure I am not the only one. Are their any busches I could plant maybe around my fence or in my flower beds that repell mosquitos ? Any type of plants that I could put on my deck at least ? I know this is a tough one, we do use spray but that only helps to a certain point. I was hoping their were some "magic" kind of plants that would make the mosquitos hate being around.
Having a neighbor that totally neglects his lawn doesn't help either as their is old leaves, wood, uncut grass etc.. But he is such a nice guy I am not going to go over and tell him to keep up his yard better just because I think mosquitos are a plenty in his yard.
I do know not to have any standing water around but the mosqits are still a problem I would love to see go away ? Even if their are some plants to put on our deck that would help repell them that would be great, getting a screened in area is just not an option right now.
Is their any gardening solution ???
Thanks!

i really don't think there is, otherwise there wouldn't be so many mosquitos, no matter where you are in the world. but maybe you could cut down on them by having a chat with the neighbor. remind him that mosquitos carry West Nile Virus that could kill him.

Franny gave you sound information!! Although the trailing geranium (Citronella Plant) has been sited for repelling the little twits...it really does not. Smearing the sap from this plant on your body will repell bugs...but that is all!

I am sure most nursurys sell this plant, it is a citrinella (sorry for the spelling) plant - the same thing as the candle and it gives off the same odour.

I don't know if you are interested but on one of the home/garden channels there was a man talking about mosquito repelent. he said to take stale beer, epsom salts, and liquid dish soap. mix equal amounts and put into a spayer bottle and hook up to your hose and spray the yard and everything in it. he said it won't hurt anything. trouble is i didn't hear how often, or when to do this, not sure if it's once a week, or every day kinda thing. i am going to try this myself this weekend.
