If I just stick a XP disk in my CD drive, can I clean my hard drive of a virus that completly destroyed my internet explorer... I have a new edition of Norton system works, but the damn virus chewed thru it.. I never had this problem with McAfee.. But I listened to a neighbor and dropped $70 for Norton..

Can I just stick the XP disk in, follow directions and have FM happen??

As your letters and other files are often infected, keeping them can reintroduce a virus unless you have a good antivirus that can clean them ALL out.

If you put the XP disk in, it will ask you if you want to reinstall and if you want to format the disk in NTFS. Formatting the disk will wipe it clean and the new install of XP would be clean. Do a new antivirus install immediately before using a browser or email and you will prevent instant reinfection.
