Good evening all. I jsut moved into a home with an existing alarm system. The key pad or something seems inoperable, as I cannot set the alarm. It's probably about 8 years old. Can I go to Home Depot or somewhere and just buy a new key pad and try to wire it in in place, or do I need to deal only withthe company that installed it (now ADT it seems?

It will probably be necessary to go to the alarm co for a replacement.

You would at least need to deal with manufacturer of the panel and get the the proper keypad.

Has the system been in use before? Ranger often wires houses when they're built, but doesn't fully activate the system. You can go to any monitoring company to activate the system, possibly upgrade the equipment and open a monitoring account. Shop around for the best monthly price. Be sure to check with your city to see if an alarm permit is required. One other note: Many cities do not allow unmonitored alarm systems.
